"It wasn't until 2002 however that we got our big break. We began to earn our stripes when MTN South Africa commissioned us to develop a comprehensive messaging solution that worked for South Africa's rapidly growing market. "
Pharos Avantgard was founded in 2000 by Valentin Micic. The company's history is marked by several significant milestones. The first two years were characterized as hard@work when we announced our entrance to the telecommunications industry by developing several systems for South Africa's parastatal power utility.
It wasn't until 2002 however that we got our big break. We began to earn our stripes when MTN South Africa commissioned us to develop a comprehensive messaging solution that worked for South Africa's rapidly growing market. In the subsequent four years we would develop a comprehensive USSD system, SMS System and Pre-Paid Voucher System. By 2006, our robust solutions supported a plethora of innovations and Value Added Services that were instrumental in growing MTN's business.
Over the next 5 years, Pharos expanded it's horizons and deployed a number of it's now tried and tested systems in other parts of Africa and parts of Europe as well. Most notably our famed USSD Systems were deployed in two of Poland's four operators viz. P4/Play and PTC (T-Mobile) in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
In 2010 a variant of our USSD system was also deployed with Unify Mobile in Poland establishing Pharos as a key messaging supplier in the Polish market with over 50% of their USSD traffic moving through our systems.
Territorial expansion wasn't the only thing on our minds. Pharos began to utilise the experience garnered from its various deployments to continuously innovate and develop proprietary platforms, logic and systems that were relevant and easily deployed. Recent developments include mNURSE, an mHealth application to monitor compliance and adherence to chronic medication regimens and a full mobile banking solution.
To date Pharos Avantgard has deployed over 30 GSM systems within a diverse client base across Africa and Europe.
